How many head you runnin out there?

Translation: How many horses do you have? Well golly, since you asked, I'll tell you about them.

William, the darker horse, to the right, started his career on the Thoroughbred race course. His registered name is "Frail Boy," really. Now, who would ever bet on a frail boy. As it turned out he wasn't frail, but neither was he fast, so his next gig was in the show ring, jumping fancy fences with flowers. He was then known as "Well Done," a fitting name, as he did very well on the show circuit. All was going along pretty smoothly for WD until his owner ran off with her boyfriend leaving her elderly mother with horses, dogs, and overdue bills. He eventually made it to our barn with the idea of being Hilarie's fancy show horse. She rode him a little and had some fun with him. Most recently "William" is the prince of the pasture, a retired elder gent who eats and poops for a living.

Yorkie, the lighter horse on the left, is a Morgan. He was a school horse, and later a lady's pleasure mount. He belongs to the mother of one of Hilarie's high school friends. Yorkie boards with us and was brought in to be William's companion after we sold some of the other horses from our past. He too enjoys the life of a pampered retiree.

The dogs in the picture are Chloe, our 9 mo. black lab and Ely our 11 yr. yellow lab. We also have 3 barn kitties; Kyle, Eddie, and Maggie.

A word about the domestic arts

Well, you know from my last posting that I can make my way around the kitchen, but did you also know I can sew?

I have been taking yoga for the past few months. I started out in a beginner class and have now moved up to " yoga for fitness." I think the "fitness" part is the few Pilates moves the instructor sneaks in. Phew, I haven't mastered this level yet, but who is watching?

So why am I telling you this? Because... this morning I made a totebag for my yoga mat. It was really quick and easy to put together, about 20 minutes. It is just roomy enough for a towel, and maybe keys.

The best laid plans

My friend Amy and I planned to cross country ski today. I made turkey chili for our lunch. Well, she was running late and then couldn't find her boots, thought maybe they had been thrown out because they were old and beat up. Long story short, she bailed. I went out anyway with the dogs, but by then the snow was too soft and sticky. I gave up and ate the chili by myself. It was great! Turkey, beans, whole grain pasta, yum.

six months of the good life

Same black dog, same bowl: Meet Chloe, our newest dog. She is so much fun. Ely, our old boy puts up with her to a point, then goes off to his bed in the living room.

kitchen update

I've been making updates around the house. Here is a look at my new pot rack and valances. Hil and Hoop helped us hang the pot rack, they are pretty handy to have around.

Someone has too much time on her hands...

Whew, the holidays are over, the tree is down, the clutter is gone. It was all fun, but now I am ready for order and calm. My winter projects will be to update the basement and make it more party friendly.
